    I had high hopes for Sakana. Only a short drive from me, lots of praise from Yelp, and a variety on the menu. I had takeout. The rolls were sadly small. I hope I don't sound like a heffer, but when I pay $8-12 for a roll, I expect a roll with some girth and that girth better not be all rice. As for taste, my mango madness (i think it was called, it was on their board of specials) was actually pretty good. The hotty roll wasn't as good and that's because of the lime pieces that sat on top. The lime totally overpowered everything on the roll. I could barely taste the salmon. At least the service was nice (meaning the hostess I ordered from) and the chef hooked it up when I asked for extra ginger. Is there any hope for sushi in Utah? I really don't know...

    Came here with my husband last weekend. Cute little place, love the decor. We were seated right away, however it took awhile for us to get noticed and the place was only about 1/4 full. After that, our server was attentive even though we had to ask for water refills. I had a glass of wine... or should I saw a SHOT GLASS of wine before our rolls arrived. Even in Utah, this measly portion was just wrong. We had three rolls: the Jordan rolll, Hawaiian and the Mama Mia. All were very good. The Hawaiian had mango on it which gave a sweet contrast to the fish. The Jordan was crunchy with the tempura and was my favorite of the three. The Mama Mia was also yummy. The eel on top was perfect. My husband hates eel, so I got it all.. Mwa ha ha ha! Giving this 4 stars due to the service. I will be back.

    This Sushi bar is in a strip mall. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food with no water even. The food was ok and the Rolls were average yet over priced . I will not eat here again. So many better Sushi bars to choose from.

    This is my favorite restaurant (sushi or otherwise) in Utah. I've been a loyal customer for nearly two years now, and I still can't get enough. The owners have built a great place to eat, even if you don't like sushi they have something for you. They make US style sushi, and if you don't like seaweed, (like my wife) substitute soy paper ($1 extra), or order a fresh roll (rolled in a thin strip of cucumber without rice). If sushi isn't your thing, try the Sakana steak. You can order it as an entrée or as part of a salad. It is tender, flavorful, the right temperature, and perfectly seasoned (if you ask for A-1 you're an idiot). They also have a chicken salad that is terrific (never even a hint of gristle). Don't be afraid to order the Monkey Brain appetizer (a deep fried large mushroom cap stuffed with jalapeno and tuna) it's one of my favorites. OC, The owner/head chef, is always experimenting with new taste combinations. The best roll, in my opinion, is the new Spicy Top (my wife and I were the first to try it). As far as sushi is concerned, you can't do better. Everything is prepared fresh, and the fish is high quality (as fresh as you can get in a landlocked state). The rice is perfectly seasoned and always consistent. The wait staff is attentive, and helpful (even those that aren't your server will bend over backwards to make you comfortable). The entire staff takes pride in their work, and it shows. The dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms are kept clean, and the décor is contemporary, giving it a relaxed atmosphere. Monday and Tuesday are good nights, as you can buy two rolls and get the third free, and dinners are always served with a complementary small appetizer of edemame. Lunch specials have many popular rolls for only $7.99. Expect to pay $8-$13 per roll for dinner. That may seem expensive, but you get what you pay for. This isn't a cheap "all-you-can-eat" sushi place, but it isn't overpriced like other restaurants I've tried.

    I was a bit disappointed trying this place for the first time. The staff seemed unwilling to make substitutions and the tempura veggies were undercooked. It was also pretty loud inside. The best thing there was the asian lettuce wraps, but only four small ones, and the side salad was good.

    What a pleasant surprise! I read the great reviews of this place so while out on a shopping marathon, we decided to stop in for a much needed energy re-charge. While the service was pretty bland, the food turned out to be beautiful and delicious. Shared a bento box and gyoza...again, simple stuff but executed really well. Gyoza was well-prepared, my fave pan-fried technique. Bento box included teriyaki steak and shrimp tempura. Steak was quality! And the sauce was really spot on...I didn't have the tempura...fried items are not always my friend! However, my pal said it was great. The california roll was standard, and the miso soup could have been skipped. But overall, happy to have been in the area and would try it again for some sushi rolls! Note: happy hour sushi rolls on MON & TUES.

    Not too bad of a sushi joint. A little on the pricey side but still not to bad. Very friendly staff and you do have lots of options. It took a little longer to get served. Who goes to a sushi joint to get a banana's fosters. Yours truly. I should have just stayed with the sushi. That was good. The BF... yuck!

    Fresh fish feels fine for friends foraging for food. Yah... I dunno what it means either. But what I do know, after visiting Sakana Sushi Bar 8 or 9 times, is that this place is right up there with the BEST sushi joints in Utah! Last night we had the Hotty Roll, the Sakana Roll and the Pink Flamingo Roll. Lisa also had the sunomono salad with Octopus. We ALWAYS get the Sakana Roll and it never disappoints. The hotty roll was wonderful, but next time I'll order it with double jalapeno and double hot sauce, as it really didn't pack the wallop worthy of its name. The Pink Flamingo is super tasty and delicious, but is probably the most Americanized roll on their menu. It's wrapped in pink rice paper, instead of nori, and it contains shrimp tempura. The Octo-salad was wonderful, just as it has been every other time (don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure Lisa is addicted to this stuff). On our most recent visit, we had an in-depth conversation with the owner. She told us that there are two main providers of sushi-grade fish supplying SLC area restos. She said Sakana uses the same supplier as "place A" and "place B" in downtown SLC. The two places she mentioned are considered the BEST sushi joints by nearly everyone I've discussed the issue with and both are much more expensive than Sakana. On Monday and Tuesday evenings they have "happy hour" specials, which are buy two rolls, get one free. Great Deal on great sushi! Based on the consistent excellentness, wonderful service and reasonable pricing, Sakana has now entered my upper eschelon of Japanese food.

    Love the sushi here!!! Rock and Roll is my favorite. Have great lunch specials. If you are in a hurry just call ahead and place order to go! Sometimes they are busy and a bit slow.

    Our favorite sushi by far. Try the Awesome, Mars, Jordan, Playboy, Rock n roll. Never had anything bad there in the last 3 years. The owner always makes a point to stop and say hi. Monday/Tuesday has buy two rolls and drinks, get a free roll. Love it!

    I have been here twice after lunch rush, so getting in and out can be pretty efficient. I really enjoyed the Sunset Roll and another one that I can't remember the name of (story of my life). The service was good and the sushi chefs were very personable. This is my favorite sushi restaurant so far in the SL Valley.

    West Jordan has a very nice Japanese dining option in Jordan Landing all to their own. Sakana has a great menu variety. I had Sashimi, while my sea food allergic date had pork Tonkatsu and we shared some Gyoza. And all were very good. But the distinction and highlight of Sakana is surely the very friendly and often amusing conversation that can be had with the staff working behind the sushi bar. Make sure you take a seat right at the bar as they were the best fun of the evening. My date and I had a great dinner while we rode out an evening mini winter snow storm yet warm and comfy sipping hot miso soup and enjoying the company of the friendly Sakana staff.

    This place is an amazing lunch spot. The deals they have at lunch and the donburi bowl they serve is incredible. I'm in love with the steak donburi at lunch and their sushi has some of the freshest fish around. Now this wouldn't be my first or second choice for dinner I primarily only eat here for lunch as I feel dinner just misses the mark but I definitely recommend this restaurant.

    I LOVE sushi.....just not this sushi. We came here because we were on the west side, I know what you are thinking "what are you doing on the west side I thought they had a restraining order against you" while that is technically true they cannot have the PTA everywhere, so I can still sneak in from time to time. When we stopped in it was late and they seated us very quickly. We were excited to order some of the specials they had on the board, we ordered the Lagoon roll which turned out to be very good and a little spicy with great flavors. We grabbed a G2 which was a little weird, kinda like when your gym coach watched you shower saying "ooh yeah lather that up, now rinse for me" it just left us feeling awkward and not wanting to talk about it. The Mango Madness has a little too much mango and is about the sweetest roll I have ever tasted. The flavors were a little muddled and didn't sit well. They give Edamame with every meal and it was a nice touch. The service was ok and I can't complain (what? That's not like me). but they were not above or beyond expectations. I don't think we will be going back there anytime soon..... Restraining Order s are just another way to say "I love you"

    Sakana was good but I'm not sure it's worth the drive to BFE. We actually recognized our waitress as a friend of ours upon arrival so we were able to talk casually about the menu options. She brought us some decent edamame and miso soup for free (I'm not sure if this is a regular courtesy or if she got us the hook up.) Anyways, she recommended the Kampai, Playboy and Hotty Roll. We ended up with the Sunset, Kampai, Angel and Hotty Roll. My personal favorite was the Sunset roll because I love the taste of lemon slices on top of sushi. My roommate's favorite (and a strong second place for me) was the Hotty Roll and holy hell... that roll is hot! I wasn't ready for the heat when I took my first bite and I nearly burst into tears! It's equipped with jalapeno, lime, and hot sauce. I think the hot sauce just hit my tongue the wrong way and it really caught me off guard (what a cheap shot on the hot sauce's part.) I would recommend Sakana but unfortunately for me, I'm not in love. The quest for my favorite sushi place in SLC continues...

    For me, the primary draw of sakana is its location. We live really close to jordan landing and there is really no other good restaurants in the mall area. Also since i hate going downtown, which is where so many of Salt Lakes great restaurants are located, Sakana is a nice change. I have never found the sushi to be mind blowing at Sakana, but it is always good and the wait staff is friendly. My only complaint is that their non-sushi offerings are not as good as some other sushi places so its more difficult to convince those who are not born again sushi eaters to go to Sakana then it is to convince them to go to say Tsunami.

    The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the wait. We went for lunch and were seated quickly. The server was very pleasant and helpful in suggesting what I should get. My fiancé ordered a roll and that came out after we got our main food. He enjoyed it. My food was good and the honey ginger was actually pretty awesome.

    Sigh. I'm in love. Not your average every day crush, but full blown head-over-heels, dreaming of when we can meet again love. Even worse, I'm not sure which sushi chef I like better. You know what? It doesn't even matter because at Sakana I can have it all. Sakana opened up some time ago and I remember when I saw it for the very first time. It was NOT love at first sight. "Sushi in Jordan Landing? I don't think so. Not gonna be good, my friend." No spark. Not attracted. Didn't even bother. Several months after our initial meeting, a mutual friend tried to hook us up. Now, I trust her opinion on all matter sushi, but still...we didn't live all that close, I didn't see Sakana on a regular basis. It was an out of sight, out of mind thing. But tonight, I wanted to try something new. I was feeling fickle. I'd been to the old sushi haunts. It was same ol' same ol'. Plus I wanted that new feeling. So we headed out to Sakana. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess who promptly seated us at the sushi bar. And the courting began. First, they wooed us a complimentary app of edamame. (this is a sushi bar only gift). We had just met and they were already showering me with a free app. Not too shabby Sakana. Not a bad start at all. We ordered. And ordered. And ordered some more. And here's what we got: Hotty roll: This was the first roll we got. It was on the special board and special it was. Tuna, asparagus, salmon, avocado, lime, jalepeno, Creamy, smooth, zippy, puckery, and a hint of spice in just the most perfect harmony of flavors. I think there was a sauce too. We asked for ours to be wrapped in cucumber instead of seaweed. It was served on skewers, lollipop style. It was tasty, pretty, and whimsical. This is my new favorite roll. Didn't even dip it in soy/wasabi. Didn't need it. It was that good. Pink Flamingo - Shrimp tempura (we subbed non-tempurad shrimp), spicy crab, and asparagus topped with roasted tomatoes and eel sauce - delish. Fresh tasting beautifully balanced flavors. Also left off the soy/wasabi mixture. Spicy Tuna, Avocado, green onion, cucumber - This is my own personal creation. I always love it. Tonight was no exception. G2 Roll - Yellowtail, cucumber, avocado topped with white tuna, fresh garlic, ponzu sauce and green onion - wha-hat? Fresh garlic in sushi? AMAZING. Whole thing. Amazing. Fresh Roll - Riceless, salmon, yellowtail, crab and avocado wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber and ponzu sauce - another hit because... They have beautifully fresh fish. Some of it is overnighted from Hawaii. The textures were perfectly balanced. The flavors came together so, so harmoniously. Crunch where you needed it. Sweet where you wanted it. Nothing overly anything. Just.... (sigh), perfect. Now for the (slightly) bad news. We did also order two apps. BBQ Shrimp - this is grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon covered in tangy Asian tinged BBQ sauce. Shrimp was grilled well. Sauce was a little overwhelming, but presentation was beautiful and flavors were good. Asian Scallops - the only meh thing we had. The menu lists them as seared. The first time we got them, they were small, overcooked, and white as the driven snow. Seared? Nope. The sushi chef had the kitchen remake them. Second time around they were not overcooked, but not seared. The sauce was a ginger-scallion slightly spicy and slightly sweet blend. It was garnished with a pretty little side salad with tasty miso dressing. Honestly, this one needs work. Because of the Asian scallops, they honestly deserve more like a 4.5 rating. But since I can't give them that, and I can't bring myself to take them down to a four, I left it at five. I used to be all about another sushi place. Let me say this to them: You will always be my first Utah sushi love. I will still see you from time to time, and I will enjoy our time together. The thing is, I've met someone else. Don't be mad. Sakana just offers me... well, more. More variety. More spice. Same quality of ingredients. More involved sushi chefs. You'll always have a special place in my heart. It's just that Sakana's place is simply specialer. As a final thought, I want to share this: In a more chivalrous sushi age, many years ago sushi was not just sushi. You went to sushi to eat a great meal, and engage in great conversation with the sushi chef. I haven't seen this level of service since moving to Utah twelve years ago. O.C. (sushi chef #1) was gracious, accommodating, and kind. He has a great palate and put together some killer stuff at our request. Tory (sushi chef #2) was entertaining, funny, and knowledgeable. Together, they are my perfect sushi chef. Thank you for showing us that sushi chivalry ain't dead. You have restored my faith in the sushi bar experience. Oh Sakana, let's meet again very, very soon.

    Great place. Typical sad strip-mall location, but don't let that deter you. We've enjoyed everything ordered. The service has generally only been "ok", not overly friendly and usually overly busy, but this place is about the food, and the food is, again, great

    Not bad, I compare all Utah made Sushi to Takashi In my opinion there one of the better sushi places but Sakana wasnt bad at all. The restaurant was quiet and very pleasing to the eye. Our waitress was very friendly and kept checking on use every 10 or so minutes. The Sushi itself was good, not too fishy and not to dry. The Miso soup had good flavor andt not too over powering. The price was average I expect to pay 10 to 12 dollars a roll.

    Visited just before closing last Monday evening skeptical that a sushi bar next to a Petsmart could be decent. The decor struck us as very fun, modern, and exactly the opposite of what we thought we'd see. A positive first impression. We ordered 3 rolls. I don't remember their names, but they were all above average in their flavor and quality. Overall the three of us left impressed with Sakana. They (local to the area) will return, especially considering that this joint is very close to their home. Bonus, it was Monday night so we tried the current special: buy two rolls and two drinks and receive a third roll free (Monday and Tuesday). That means that two people can essentially have a full sushi dinner those nights for around $30 with tip. Nice!

    Ordered 3 rolls: Sakana, Pink Flamingo, Wasatch. All very good. Rolls were actually neat [a pet peeve of mine] and nicely arranged on the plate. I'm not one to write long reviews, but out of the few places I've tried so far in SLC, this one I'd definitely go back to if I am in the area.

    Excellent sushi, great presentation and very inventive. They are very passionate about what they do and fuss over every details. The sashimi was not only fresh and tasty, but beautifully presented, not just 5 slices tossed on a plate like most sushi joints do. I eat sushi at least 5 times per week, all over the US. This place is one of the best ones out there

    This is a nice sushi joint on the west side of town; the only downside is it is a bit pricey. I like the variety of rolls and the service is always great. Stand out rolls are the Playboy Roll and the Paradise Roll.

    A Japanese restaurant in West Jordan? Well we gave it a try and it was very good! We eat at the other places like Tsunami, Kyoto, Koyo, Benihana etc etc and this place is surprisingly good! We are both Japanese and this place has good food, what can I say more. My mom likes this place as well and she went to a Cooking School in Tokyo.

    I tried the bento box here. It came with 4 sushi rolls, tempura, rice, and chicken. The presentation was very well done. Make sure you're hungry before having one...you'll definitely be full afterwards! Great service and very nice ambience. Very affordable for a good Japanese dining experience!

    The rolls were phenomenal. The prices.... not so much. Too expensive for the size of roll you get. The Hottie roll is probably my favorite sushi roll I've ever consumed. No complaints on service or food, just that its a little spendy for what you get is all.

    A friend talked about this great sushi place in West Jordan (Jordan Landing) and I didn't really pay too much attention to it. I put it aside as an option but didn't reall expect too much from it. And then she took me there. WOW. Apparently they get their fish from the same vendors as Takashi, a much more fancier and more expensive place downtown SLC. I love Takashi, but I honestly liket Sakana's rolls even better. Love the selection and freshness. Will go back very often!!!

    Overall a excellent experience. When we first stepped through the door of this small japanese place in Jordan landing in the stripmall by Petsmart we were pleasantly surprised. The decor was nice and upscale which we weren't expecting. We were seated right away at a nice booth. The waitress took our drink order and we browsed the menu. We landed up ordering 3 speciality rolls, 1 maki roll, and an order of salmon sashimi. The server brought us out some complementary edamame to snack on while the chef made our sushi. The rolls came out shortly after. The presentation was top notch. The sushi looked great and tasted better. The Utah roll was amazing. The salmon crunch roll was the only one I didn't really like but the girlfriend did. It was a riceless roll with tons of salmon and just too much fish for me but it was well prepared. After downing our rolls we had to order more because it was that good. The service was top notch. They kept our drinks full and were polite and friendly. They suggested we try dessert but we had plans to go elsewhere for dessert so we passed. Overall it was an excellent dining experience. Specialty rolls were $8-12 and the maki rolls were ~$6.

    Went here for lunch on Saturday they had different kind of sushi rolls for only 7.99 lunch special. I order the Playboy, G 2, and a New York roll, the fish were very fresh it just melts in your mouth. The place is very clean and the decor is very nice. The only con that i had was the service was okay. Overall great place to grab sushi for lunch and even for dinner.

    Love this place!!! I always have an order of sashimi which is always fresh and leaves me wanting more. This last time I ordered a spicy chefs choice and it did not disappoint! The server asked me a few basic questions: What fish do you like? Spicy or not? and then she had the chef come up with the roll... no name. It had salmon, super thin sliced lemon and jalapenos! This roll knocked my socks off!! This is always a stop of mine when in W. Jordan!

    I came here for lunch. Food is decent but the menu is limited. Lots of great sushi of course. I wish they had some better entree options. Check out their lunch specials for the best value if you come by yourself.

    Like some other reviewers, I have had some issues with service at this establishment. My most recent visit was with a group of 10, but we all arrived at different times. When I got there, I told the hostess I was part of a birthday dinner and gave her the name of the birthday girl and she said, "Um, so do you want to just look around for her?" That's kind of awkward, since the hostess is in charge of seating, but the restaurant isn't too big so I spotted the group easy enough. Once seated, no one came by to provide water or take drink orders until I flagged someone down after 15 minutes. Other than these issues, the sushi I had was great. The quality of fish was good, and the rolls were pretty creative. I enjoyed everything I tried. Sakana is the place to go for sushi in this area of the valley.

    Decided to give it a try on a last minute suggestion. Wandered in on a Friday night, got seated immediately. The waitress took our order and that was the last we saw of her for about 45 minutes. When she did finally bring our food, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I think it could be a great little spot in a prime location if they can address their service issues.

    I love the food the sushi is good, and their entree are delightful. It's enough to keep you full, and to the point where you don't need to order more. The service however, is AWFUL. There are many times that we waited 15 minutes to be given menus or even given water. This time around we went rather a little earlier than usually it was around 5 or 6pm. We sat right in the middle where each server could see us, we were the only ones sitting in the tables. We waited about 30 minutes and we were not looked at, served, or even given menus. Many of the waitresses just sat and looked at us. Yes, maybe our table isn't the one you are in charge of, but you can at least give us menus. We waited for about 30 minutes and left. I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend or family member.

    I really feel annoyed that others characterize this as an "authentic" Sushi Bar, or even as an authentic Japanese restaurant. I AM part-Japanese, and well-versed in authentic Japanese food. My grandmother was a waitress who cooked customers' food at their table for decades at another restaurant. And, I actually lived in Japan for a few years. * The noodles used in their yakisoba have got to be standard, supermarket pasta noodles. It wasn't horrible, but the lack of decent ingredients was disappointing. Especially, for the price. Yakisoba is comfort-food for me, and I feel better getting something from a Sarku, Edo Japan, or some other place in the food courts of the local malls. Not kidding. I like their stuff better. And it's way cheaper. * Their menu is fairly limited, aside from sushi, but since they advertise themselves as a sushi bar, I guess I can't hold that against them. What they make is "okay", but not impressive at all, for the price. It's easier to make better stuff at home. And I do. I'm willing to give room for creativity and artistry, but it seems they are going for some kind of Japa-Mex fusion. Sorry, not interested! * They serve Escolar. (aka, the "Ex-Lax fish") It has been *banned in Japan* (wait, was that an 80s song?) for consumption by humans. So, once again, this is NOT authentic. It can taste nice, and have a nice texture. However? Consuming even moderate amounts of it pretty much guarantee you will have orange, explosive diarrhea the next day. This can lead to life-threatening conditions in some cases. It has been judged to pose a true health-risk to diners, leading to its ban. (The American FDA, however, fails next to many other nations' own food-safety institutions, and allows Escolar, along with other dangerous things) So, no. Not authentic. If it tasted really nice, I might overlook that. But their food seemed prepared with the same "meh" attitude you would expect at a fast-food burger joint. Only, you are paying more than you would from a fast-food establishment. --- If you want the most delicious sushi in the valley? Go to Takashi in the city, on Market Street. They do have some creativity, but everything is delicious. If anything is wrong, they are sure to fix it! (One small faux pas led to an impressive gift certificate from the owner. I was blown away) And Takashi makes a MEAN bowl of udon! If you want good, authentic Japanese food overall? I recommend two places: * Suehiro, in Sandy. You won't be disappointed. Though it was taken over by new management in the last couple of years, I haven't yet heard of, or experienced, a reduction in quality. * Kyoto, in Sugarhouse. (about 11th E and 13th South) Their owner, Tada-San, is old-school. He does it well. Everything is good. He frequently comes our to visit the customers himself. You can even sit down in a more traditional way, if desired. Both restaurants have a sushi-bar, and neither has ever disappointed me, over MANY visits in the last thirty years or more. I helped many Americans to discover how wonderful sushi can be at the above places. Many had never tried even a California-roll. Even my young children are converts to sushi and sashimi! But hey - don't take MY word for it. If you like the food at this place, good for you. I will not be wasting my money there again. I've got better places to eat. :D

    Sakana is like any other typical sushi restaurant except it is a bit more on the expensive side. When ordering you receive a small dish of edamame to begin your meal. I ordered 2 rolls along with some Green Tea. The rolls were prepared nicely and were tasty. The tea on the other hand tasted nothing like Green Tea. I would definitely recommend avoiding that.

    For an after work stress reliever this is a good go to spot. Their menu is reasonably priced and I hVe never eaten sushi or fish here that I questioned the freshness. Their service is a little slow sometimes but I also tend to sit at the bar a lot. So if I need another drink I almost assume the wait staff thinks I will tell the sushi chefs. As always sushi here is better in house than To go. The manager always walks around and tries to talk to each and every customer. It's a great place for a nice relaxing dinner. They also have menu items that are not sushi.

    I went here with a friend a few weeks ago at 9pm and asked for a table, the hostess/waitress did something I've NEVER experienced, ever. She rudely said, "Uh, what time is it?" Then pulled out her phone to look, It was 9:05 or something and they close at 10. Then she just leads us to our table and didn't say a single word. Seriously? SO rude! I get you wanted to go home, but you still had an hour. The sushi of course was amazing, because it always is. Sunset is my absolute favorite! I recommend they talk to their employees about customer service.

    Everything at this place is good....! We have been several times and we always order different items and they are always good...! When you go in don't be scared to order several different kinds of rolls and even appies...! Definitely a plus if you're in a large group or if you're just a couple try sitting at the sushi bar... Service is alway great and they have a full bar and great wines...!

    Delicious sushi only 7 mins away from my house. What more could a girl ask for ? Came to Sakana sushi after I swore off the cheap 50% off sushi joint I had been going to for years. My sweetheart was a bit worried the prices were going to gouge our wallets but to our surprise it was spot on. We started off with two local craft beers and ordered a side salad. Even though it was a Friday night and the place was busy our drinks came right up! Soon to follow was the complimentary edamame and our side salad to share. Not too long after our first roll The Wasatch roll came out. The fish inside the roll was cold (my sweetheart refuses to eat warm sushi) and it was not drowning in sauce. I ordered two avocado rolls and they were the last to come out but not before we were done with the Wasatch roll. The timing for all the food came out perfectly! And we didn't have to sit around and wait for the bill. It just graciously appeared ! This place is family friendly since it's in the suburbs so if your looking for a romantic evening wait past the kids bed time before coming. Safe to say I look forwards to checking in here on a regular basis!

    This place is pretty average. I feel it's a little pricey for what it is. It's the same price as Tsunami, or Naked Fish, but it's just not up to par (down to par?). But it's not BAD and I don't want to make it seem that way. It's in an area with few competitors by way of sushi so we end up going. The service is always decent and you may want to check out the monkey brains appetizer and the tofu. I always opt for the fresh rolls anywhere I go, stay away from cream cheeses, mayo and tempura. What's the point of sushi if you're just gonna douse it in fattening garbage? Or do what you want, it's America. Marry your sister for all I care.

    This is my favorite sushi place! All of the rolls are good. I like the lettuce cup appetizer. I have had Vegas Rolls all over the U.S as I travel a LOT, and this place is by far the best. I go here regularly and am never disappointed.

    *My fifth or sixth time eating here for dinner* Very good sushi for a reasonable price. The edamame served at the beginning of the meal is complimentary. I came with four other friends and everyone's orders came out really quickly and relatively at the same time. I highly recommend the 'Awesome Roll' and the 'Playboy Roll.'

    The sushi is alright but hardly memorable. The gyoza are wholly unspectacular. The yakisoba is very oversauced. A lot of their items are very "meh" like this. Their garlic chicken wings however are delicious. So if you're hankering for some garlic wings and absolutely nothing else, you should go check this place out.

    Sakana has got to be one of my most favorite restaurants! They have the best tempura, it's light and seasoned & cooked perfectly! They also have great sushi, the Mars roll is my favorite. Everything's fresh and absolutely delicious! Easy to find parking, great atmosphere, good staff...I have no complaints for Sakana. I love eating here!

    So we went near the time they were closing, only one other customer was there. Their water had the weirdest after taste. We ordered teriyaki chicken and a mama mia sushi roll, and I must say for a roll that's over $10, that was some good sushi.

    They try so hard at their presentation, they forgot about the flavor. I guess you pay to look at food art. If you want something tasty, try elsewhere. They charged me $7.50 for 1 salmon skin hand roll. Let me tell you, I won't be back here again.

    We went here for the first time tonight and it is easily the best sushi we've had in town, so far. Tory is the best sushi chef and he gave us great recommendations on rolls and appetizers. Overall just extremely delicious, great staff and great atmosphere. A+.

    Ok - first thing's first. They GOTTA work on the service here. I want to see local places survive in the land of chains out here in the west side. The service wasn't horrible, it just was so very average. Read through a few other reviews and started to realize this might be a pattern. That being said...the food was very good. Admittedly, I am a totally unadventurous person when it comes to fish. It took me years to eat cooked fish, and even then I usually drown it in sauce or lemon. So, sadly, I cannot review the sushi. However, the steak and shrimp tempura was really, really good. Everything was very tasty and the chefs do not rely on salt to compensate for lack of taste. We will certainly go again and hope for a slightly friendlier server next time around!

    We've been a few times before service has been good. Went today, stood there for 2 to 3 minutes waiting to be seated but the hosted never come up. Even the sushi chefs kept telling the hostess there was someone up front but no one come up. We just walked out and drove down the street to another sushi place.

    We tried Sakana for the first time and loved the creative food. We ordered baked mussels, a Fresh Roll (no rice, wrapped in cucumber) and another (I forget the name, but it was delicious). The Fresh Roll was AMAZING!! Really creative, innovative way to remove rice from the sushi equation (for those watching what you eat, sushi rolls are NOT a diet safe food!). Our ticket was $41, which I thought was very reasonable. The only reason this place doesn't get five stars is the noise level. The space has high, warehouse ceilings, and as the restaurant filled up, echoing conversations become a little too loud for my tastes. However...I'm old, and you may not be...give it a try, I don't think you will regret it!

    Our first visit to Sakana can be nicely summed up using one word: MmmmmmmmmMMMMmMMMmmmmmmMMmmmmmMMMMM! It's a long, yet uncomplicated word, and right on the money. Their menu and sushi selections reminded me of something one would find in Osaka. I've never been to Osaka, but I can't imagine they'd have fresher fish than Sakana. They offer several selections for the rarely-spotted Utah sushi purist, without all the tempura fried and mayonnaise sauce-laden rolls. They rely heavily on their amazing fish to provide the flavor, and boy-oh-boy does it ever. First, I must say how delightful our service experience was. Our lovely server, Joffree (yes, Joffree, after the ballet, she explained) was a delight. She was overjoyed that it was our first time, and happily provided us with menu suggestions. She even ran quickly back to the chef on more than one occasion to obtain answers to our questions that she wasn't certain of, and always returned with a smile. Another plus, the place was spotlessly clean. We had a very difficult time deciding, so I relied on fellow Yelpers and tried the Hotty Roll, the Pink Flamingo Roll, along with a featured special roll (name escapes me). All were fantastic, full of flavor from the extraordinarily fresh fish, with very well-thought-out accompaniments. There were so many that we wanted to try, it was a shame we didn't bring a group. After trying the maki, we had a strong urge for sashimi, which doesn't occur at most Utah sushi places. One of their uber-fresh fish selections for the day was yellowtail. It was magnificent. It felt erroneous just chewing it. It literally fell apart on my chopsticks, and veritably melted once in my mouth. Pretty impressive. Yup, it's official...Sakana has bewitched me. We'll come back. And we'll bring friends next time (for purely selfish reasons, of course).

    Sakana has quickly become my favorite Sushi Bar around the SLC area. The restaurant it self has a very nice feel when you walk in. The staff has been very attentive and helpful during our visits. I have noticed a trend in good sound systems in restaurants here, and they do not disappoint. If you have the chance to sit a the sushi bar, take it and enjoy. OC and company have a great chemistry back there and are great to talk with and learn about their food choices. The quality of fish is great here. Looks like they take a lot of care in the selection and preparation. We have even seen them cleaning some of the fish right there at the bar. They also have the best sushi rice I have had in Utah. The texture and flavor is consistent, flavorful but not overpowering. I enjoyed the Chirashi on my first visit, and the nigiri on my second. Many beautiful and delicious rolls are offered. Slowly working my way through the list...and it might take a while. Awesome roll, Jordan roll, Angel roll, Spice Up, Salmon Crunch... all recommended. Will continue investigating... Brown rice green tea seems to be the norm in Utah...and works good for me. Wish it was a little hotter, but still happy. I have recommended Sakana to some coworkers already, and happily do so to anyone stopping at Jordan Landing.

    I was in SLC on business, so sat at the sushi bar by myself. It was 6:30p on a Monday, so not too crowded, and service was fast and friendly. Being from Los Angeles, I was a little skeptical about sushi in SLC, but I'm happy to admit what I ordered was every bit as good (or better) than many of the places I've tried in LA and SF. Tempura appetizer was on the small side but prepared perfectly--lightly breaded and very crispy. For the raw stuff I had yellowtail sashimi, a Playboy roll, and Dynasty roll. All the fish I tried was extremely fresh and high quality, cuts were decent sized, as were the rolls. Will definitely be back!

    Good looking place and Oh my ...... have you tried their Teriyaki Steak? I've eaten Japanese food all my life and this has got to be in the top. The agedashi tofu is delicious and their sushi is pretty decent. A bit on the pricey side, but its good.

    Food and wait staff were amazing. The rolls coming out were a little slow. This was my second time here. Had a Vegas roll, Spyder roll and a Mars roll. Was trying for a quick dinner after softball, was not quick but was delicious.

    We were in the Jordan Landing one night with a party of seven and decided to check out this sushi joint in the area. The place seems clean enough. We got seat in the middle tables rather than the side, which has a very red lighting to it. I could hardly see the color of my food without external light from a camera. Let's began with the appetizers, we got some agedashi tofu and miso soups. The tofu was a little bit small and the soup stock was quite bland, and it was like eating deep fried plain tofu. The soup was a little over-seasoned, but tolerable overall. White Tuna Salad was thought to be something similar from two other places we had before, but the veggies were a little low as we were unaware "mixed greens" means a handful sliced radish with three slices of avocado. As for the entrees, the Shrimp Tempura Udon was decent. The rest of us just got a bunch of rolls. The special roll was called the WTF roll (seriously... that was the name, not sure who came up with it), our initial assumption on the taste was it will taste like WTF in a good way, but it ended up tasting like WTF in the bad way. I would avoid that roll if it were still on the special roll board as you may blur out the full name of that roll. We also got some common rolls like the Dragon roll, Rainbow roll, etc... An interesting roll was the Fresh roll, which has no seaweed or rice in it, and tasted like eating veggies. They were nicely decorated. The rolls I would recommend the Sakana roll, G2 roll (same name as that nice Android phone...), Awesome roll, and the Kampai roll. Those ones were delicious. We also had a small chat with the owner Julie and found out she was from Mongolia. I also gave her some feedbacks on the food. There were definitely areas that Sakana exceeded and failed. My opinions of the place is still mixed at this point. Although it could be coincidence, but 6 out of 7 who were there suffered a diarrhea nightmare the next day. It may just be a weekday issue or the freshness of the fish? I won't be quick to judge on that one...

    Really, REALLY love this place! Took a cousin from the Bay area there and he said that rivals with some of the best sushi places in San Francisco! Sakana Sushi is a gem of a place right here in West Jordan where the fish is always fresh! We talked with the owner and she told us she flies it in regularly fresh! Our fav's are the Mars Roll and the Playboy Roll. Love that they have specials and Monday and Tuesday are great days to go and get a good deal! Whenever we have a craving for some yummy sushi...this is the place we go!
